Batu Niti dive site description
Located just east of Tulamben’s main dive area, Batu Niti is one of those underrated gems that local divers cherish. With a steep rocky slope leading into the deep blue, this site is both challenging and richly rewarding. Batu Niti, meaning “Rock Passage”, offers moody volcanic sand, coral-encrusted boulders, and a raw, untouched underwater terrain that attracts a wide range of marine life.
Currents can be variable here, which is why we recommend this site for more experienced divers. That said, the visibility is often excellent, and the terrain provides unique opportunities for both macro and wide-angle photography. It’s especially popular with divers looking to escape the more crowded sites and enjoy something off the beaten path.
Common sighting in Batu Niti
Batu Niti is a haven for macro life. Frogfish, ornate ghost pipefish, snake eels, and flamboyant cuttlefish are regular visitors here. Photographers will enjoy the abundance of nudibranchs, tiny crabs, and shrimp nestled in the rock crevices and coral rubble.
At depth, you may also be lucky enough to spot pelagic species passing through, including barracuda and trevallies. Combine that with excellent sponge and coral growth, and Batu Niti becomes one of the most visually compelling muck-macro sites in the area. It’s a dive that rewards attention and a sense of adventure.
