Discover Coral Diver course curriculum
Your Discover Coral Diver program blends hands-on exploration, scuba practice, and meaningful conservation learning. You’ll gain Ocean Gardener recognition, giving you lifelong value whether you’re just beginning your underwater journey or planning future Ocean conservation training.
1. Learn about coral reefs
In your first session, we introduce the world of corals through an accessible and engaging video and presentation. Building on Ocean Gardener’s knowledge base , you’ll learn how corals grow, what makes them vulnerable, and why restoration matters in Amed.
These fundamentals help you interpret the reef like a marine biologist, understand coral health, and appreciate the ecological importance of each species.
Topics include:
Introduction to coral biology
Growth forms,
Hard vs. soft corals,
Coral farming basics
Threats to reefs
2. Dive at the coral nursery
After gearing up, you’ll dive directly into Lipah beach dive site. This is where you’ll practice the theory you learned, identifying coral structures and observing restoration techniques underwater at the Lipah coral nursery.
The dives takes place partly in the coral nursery and partly on the natural reef, allowing you to witness how restored corals grow and how restoration efforts help rebuild habitat and support healthier reef.
3. Plant a coral
The highlight of your day is contributing to the Lipah restoration site. Under guidance, you’ll fragment a donor colony, attach your coral cutting to a substrate, and carefully place it within the nursery.
Your coral will continue growing under the care of Ocean Gardener teams until it’s strong enough to be outplanted onto the reef. This simple act becomes your personal mark on Amed’s underwater future.
